Our school is pleased to inform you that we are conducting a #EduFoodHack hybrid hackathon! Addressing food waste issues through an innovative, creative event where European secondary school students learn about real-life challenges and ideate, create and present a truly out-of-the box solution to problems for which society has not yet found an answer.
A hackathon is a rather fluid concept which essentially entails a short intensive event in which participants from all walks of life, with all sorts of expertise, work together to solve complex issues. When a hackathon uses technology to more efficiently collaborate, not only face to face but also online, it is called a hybrid hackathon. #EduFoodHack is an initiative that addresses food waste issues through collaboration between classrooms in different European countries.
Through this hybrid hackathon, our students will be thoroughly researching and solving real-world societal issues using creative and innovative methods, allowing them to create for themselves a hugely valuable learning experience. They will learn and ideate together and provide feedback on eachother, further enhancing the solutions they come up with.
Our school has chosen to take up the challenge to help tackle food waste and to make education grow alongside the needs and wants of both our students and society as a whole.
For this event, the students from our area will be coming together in one location to team up and experience the hackathon. At the end, they will be pitching their ideas and prototypes to an audience of challenge holders, peers, teachers, family and others.
We are contacting you because we are inviting you to cover this special event! And because we would love to speak to you about our plans, our mission and the "why" behind this hackathon so we can better inspire others to join the movement of reducing food waste. We look forward to your reply!
